Video's GPS location in Apple Photos

I was fighting for a long time with Apple Photos to make it display GPS location on a map for home videos I edited on my Mac and then imported to the app. Despite the official QuickTime documentation the

Location information must be provided in XMP (QuickTime has dedicated tag for it) otherwise Apple Photos doesn't recognize it.
